FREEDOM TO ASK

This is the confidence which we have from Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. I John 5:14-15

The world is so negative and people can be so unkind, and some-times even cruel. Often we are afraid to ask someone for help or even encouragement because we have been hurt in the past by the negative responses of others. If we are not careful, we can begin to put God into our “human box” and not realize that He truly is our Heavenly Father Who wants us to come to Him with whatever we need. The caveat in this verse is the phrase “according to His will.” These verses are not a free pass to Disneyworld. They are not a gold coin or a magic lamp to grant our every wish. They are the promise from a Loving Father Who wants to provide for His children, but Who also wants to teach those children some life lessons that they so desperately need to learn in order to become truly content. A parallel verse to these verses would be Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” When we delight in the Lord, He changes our heart’s desires to the desires that match His desires for us. Then it is easy for Him to grant those desires because they coincide with what He knows is best for us. We can have confidence that our God both hears our requests and will answer them when we seek His face and His will for our lives.
