For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
When we look at this list, it is incredibly complete! God started with death as something that cannot separate us from Him. Nothing could seem to be a stronger separator than death itself? But Paul goes on to list spiritual beings (angels), governmental authorities (principalities), the present or the future, any type of power, distance, or “any other created thing” as things that cannot stand between us and God’s love. And Paul states that God has persuaded Him…convinced Him that absolutely nothing can separate us from His love. And once again, this love is “in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” This theme runs throughout the Bible. It is the theme of God’s love as demonstrated through Jesus’ death on the cross. And because Jesus Himself rose again from the dead, we can trust His promises that we will rise as well, and therefore death cannot separate us from God’s love. With a promise like this, we have hope for tomorrow because with God’s love, we can face anything. You can count on Him to come through in hard times. Trust in His love today.
