THE BLESSING OF PEACE

The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

Scripture is full of so many gifts that God wants to give us. James 1:7 (NIV) says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows.” Anything that is good in our lives is truly a gift from our loving Heavenly Father.

In the midst of a stressful and chaotic world, what gifts do we need more on a daily basis than strength and peace?

We need physical strength to get all of our tasks done. We need mental strength to keep our focus. We need emotional strength to survive in relationships with people who have the same basic sin nature that we have. We need spiritual strength to survive daily battles with the Enemy. Above all, we need peace to quiet and calm our spirits when we feel like we just cannot continue on. God offers these gifts freely to us as His people…those who have chosen to completely and eternally commit our lives to Him as our Lord and Savior.

If I do not have the strength and peace that I need, that is a red flag to check my fellowship with the Lord. The relationship became eternal as soon as I gave my life to Him but the fellowship can be broken whenever I sin. At that point, I have, in essence, hung up on God when I chose to sin. God does not ever break that connection. He does not move but I am certainly prone to do so. As Robert Robinson wrote in Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, “prone to wander Lord I feel it…prone to leave the God I love.”

Lord, please help me to realize when I start to wander…right at the beginning so I won’t go far before I return back to you.
