Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples. Peace is one of His gifts to us. Even though He was getting ready to physically leave this world, He had the supernatural ability to give us peace, even if He is not physically present in human form that we can see. This is His peace…real genuine peace. This is the “perfect peace” from Isaiah 26:3 and the “peace that passes understanding” from Philippians 4:7. The world promises peace but does not have the ability to give peace but God created peace. Peace is one of the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22. That fruit becomes evident in our lives when we are totally yielded to His Lordship and being guided by His Holy Spirit. Once we yield to His Lord-ship and give Him every single area of our lives, the result of that yielding is that we will experience His “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control.” The opposite of peace is fear and turmoil. Jesus commanded us to “not let your heart be troubled or afraid.” He knew that we would be tempted to fear and be anxious. As a man, he understood the emotions that human beings experience and the temptation to fear and be anxious. He longed to assure us that He had the solution to our fears. His peace.
