TO REJOICE IS A CHOICE!

“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)

I’ve heard this verse all my life. In the church where I grew up, for many years, the choir used to sing a song based on this verse to open every Sunday morning service and when I read this verse, that song runs through my head. However, when I read the verse in context, it takes on an entirely new meaning. The 23 verses that precede this verse in Psalm 118 are all about being persecuted and falsely accused, but learning to trust God anyway.

This verse was not written on a bright sunny morning when all was well in David’s world.  It was written in the midst of adversity and hardship.  It was written in the middle of not understanding what in the world God was doing!  It was written Before things were resolved and Before God had delivered him.  It was written in faith and born out of the hope that God would deliver and rescue him at some time in the future.  It was a Choice to Rejoice in the middle of a really challenging time, Not a natural response to what was going on in his life.

So that brings to mind once again the question that seems to arise every day in some way.

“Will I trust God?” Will I trust Him that He truly is in charge, no matter what things look like? Will I trust Him when I don’t feel like it?  Will I trust Him when things get worse instead of better?

What will you choose today?  Will YOUR choice be to rejoice?

It truly IS your choice! Trust & Rejoice in Him!
