WAITING

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay. And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:1-3

Normally the Psalms encourage me when I am discouraged, but the phrase “I waited patiently” seems rather intimidating. Lord, I confess to you that I have not been waiting patiently! I don’t want to wait at all! I want you to intervene supernaturally in a phenomenal way and put an end to all of these circumstances and emotions that Satan is trying to use to make me miserable! I want to be rescued and I must admit that I want to be rescued NOW!

However, when I look at the next 2 verses, and see the results that David experienced from waiting patiently, the end result looks like it was worth the wait! You turned to him, you heard his cry, AND you lifted him up out of the slimy pit. You set his feet on a rock (You Yourself) and You were the firm place upon which David stood. You even gave him a new song of praise so that others would hear his testimony and come into a personal relationship with You. Wow!

God, would You do that through me? Would you give me patience to wait on You and faith to trust You when it seems like You aren’t even paying attention to all that is happening to me? Right now, it doesn’t seem possible that You could do anything at all through me. I feel like such a failure at this faith venture. When I read some of the other Psalms, it seems that David despaired sometimes as well and You still did all of this for Him.

Lord, would You please give me hope for the future today and lift me up in Your time?
