GAINING NEW STRENGTH

Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

The key to gaining the strength that we need is to “wait for the Lord.” Sometimes we “hit the ground running” for the day as soon as we get out of bed. We think that we don’t have time to have our Quiet Time when actually, we won’t make it if we do not stop and spend time with the Lord first.

We tend to do the Urgent instead of the Important. Whatever or whoever is crying out the loudest is what takes our attention and we get caught up in survival instead of doing what is most important…refueling for each moment of each day with the One Who knows our every need. He also knows everything that is going to happen today and what we will need to make it through. He is well aware of how little unscheduled time we have and I’m sure that I have often grieved Him by choosing entertainment over the enlightenment that is always available in His Presence.

I long to soar through each day like an eagle. I would love to be full of energy and never “run out of gas” physically, emotionally and spiritually. So why do I choose other things instead of “waiting for the Lord?” I believe that it is the result of what happens when our focus gets skewed.

That old hymn by Helen Lemmel says “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.” When I look at Jesus FIRST and not last (or in my spare time), everything else falls into place. Decisions are easier. Crises are less stressful. Life is incredibly joyful when I focus on Him first.

Lord, draw me to You early each day. Help me gaze on You until my vision clears to see what matters most to You. Help me to prioritize my time with You on a daily basis. Help me to appreciate more the fact that the God Who made everything wants to spend time with me. Wow! How humbling is that? Help me to remember that Lord.
